Camping Bella Austria is a small, friendly campsite with a family feel, located in the mountainous, lush forest of the Katschal Valley in southern Austria.
We booked this stay through Eurocamp and stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin, and stayed for 5 nights.
The Good
It’s family friendly.

Now all campsites we have stayed at are family friendly – camping after all is amazingly fun for kids and just being there is exciting for them.
We particularly loved this one for our boys, it was perfectly suited to their ages. It was quiet and calm, thete is no evening entertainment, no partying or noise at night, it had a very chilled out vibe, which is exactly what we were after – a really relaxing experience in nature.
There are beautiful views of the forested mountains surrounding the site – we caught some beautiful sunsets.
There are numerous quiet bike riding trails and you can hire bikes from the nearby village of Sankt Peter en Kammergut.
The campsite had a great playground with a rope course, and a small petting zoo with goats, rabbits and chickens which the kids could feed fresh grass whenever they liked. It was a massive hit with the kids!

There was a small pool with an adjoining toddler pool. It didn’t have any slides, but they still had a wonderful time playing in the water.
Family activities
There were so many families here, and the kids made firm friends, which really made their holiday. There wasn’t a massive kids club, but there were some people who led activities such as a water fight, or animal care, or discos in the early evening, which the kids adored. For families with older children, it may be too quiet, and entertainment is aimed at younger ones- but for primary aged kids, it is spot on.

On our last day, there was an outdoor end of summer party, with an entertainer for the children, free beers for the adults, and the kids all toasted marshmallows around the fire. It was really special and one of our favourite holiday memories. The whole place felt like a relaxing, chilled out low-key experience, which was exactly what we were hoping for.
It’s a real bargain
The price – something I definitely need to mention is what a bargain this place was – perhaps because of the isolated location? Who knows. However what I do know, is that we got a clean and comfortable cabin that slept 5 ( although as a family of four we just about managed in the space) for an amazing price.
It had a toilet, shower, kitchenette, and indoor seating area as well as a great air con/ heater and an outside decking area. For 5 nights in August ( the last week) we paid £300 which quite frankly, coming from the UK we found incredible, where a caravan holiday in the six weeks summer school break can set you back thousands.
Somethings to consider
As previously mentioned, it is a quiet campsite- not much going on for older kids, teens etc. It is perfect for primary aged children and younger, though.
It also in the middle of nowhere! It’s located in the heart of the Katschal Valley in southern, rural Austria. It’s extremely beautiful, and feels like an authentic place to experience country Austria. There are lots of bike trails and walking trails in the mountains and along the rivers, but it feels isolated, and you really need a car to access this place.
It is also about an hours drive to any attractions – we went to the Gurkhal Mountains to access Gondolas, lakes, and kids’ activities such as adventure playgrounds and toboggan in the mountains. This was super fun, but again, having a car was essential.
We used the campsite to relax, and partly as a base for exploring, however it is a significant drive to many of Austrias’ top attractions such as Zell Am See, Hallstatt, Salzburg and Graz being approximately 2 hours away by car. We were happy to do this, but understandably would put many off depending on what you wanted out of your holiday.
There aren’t many options for eating out – we didn’t love the onsite restaurant to be honest and didn’t enjoy our pizzas or our schnitzels; this seemed to be the only options, really. This maybe because we aren’t massive fans of Austrian food, and we nor ally loved pizza but didn’t think these ones were that nice in honesty.
There may have been one or two places to eat in the local villages, but we didn’t explore these, preferring to cook and bbq in our own cabin. There is a small supermarket a 5 minute drive away, but it has everything you would need and is reasonably priced.

Final thoughts…
We loved the laid back, family vibes of this beautiful, understated Austrian campsite which felt authentic and friendly.
Perfect for children up to the teen years, there is lots of wholesome fun to be had for the kids, and lots in the surrounding area if you don’t mind a drive of up to an hour to access attractions in the mountains.
We had a really special holiday here and would definitely come back.
